TV Asahi's variety show "Platinum Family: A Glimpse into the Lives of Glamorous Families" (Tuesdays at 7 PM, excluding some regions) showcases the lifestyles of "glamorous families." On March 17th, a two-hour special will feature the late Hanae Mori, the world-renowned fashion designer who would have been 100 years old this year.
Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, who had been friends with Hanae for 50 years, appeared in the studio wearing a gorgeous dress designed by Hanae. She spoke of her affection for the dress, saying she "loves it and cherishes it," and revealed that all the costumes she wore for the music program "The Best Ten" (TBS, 1978-1989), which she hosted, were also designed by Hanae. Her granddaughter, model Izumi Mori, also appeared in the studio and shared insights into Hanae's true personality that only family members would know.
The program will also feature little-known anecdotes about the great stars. The red dress that Hibari Misora wore at her "Phoenix Concert" was made by Hanae, who was concerned about Hibari's poor health and made it as light as possible while also making it look big even in the Tokyo Dome. When the director requested that the hem be extended by 10 meters, Hanae and Hibari checked to make sure it was long enough for just the two of them to walk together, and Kuroyanagi marveled at the deep bond between them, saying, "Hibari must have had a lot of trust in Hanae."
Furthermore, Kuroyanagi will share anecdotes about her fateful encounter with Hanae in New York, as well as her time at Hanae's home, where she was present with Audrey Hepburn.
Her eldest son, Akira, also made an appearance. In this rare media appearance, Akira recalled Hanae as "someone who pursued beauty and never compromised." He revealed her dedication to beauty, saying, "Until she passed away at the age of 96, she would meticulously apply her own makeup, redoing it until she was satisfied."
