It has been announced that "The Cuckolded Husband with Three Months to Live," starring actor Jin Shirasu, will begin airing on April 24th in TV Asahi's "Friday Night Drama" slot (Fridays at 11:15 PM). Shirasu will play the protagonist, a kind-hearted, bottomless cheating husband, while Sakurai Hinako will play the heroine, a free-spirited wife who betrays her husband and indulges in an affair. This will be the first time the two have co-starred in a drama since "Janus no Kagami" (2019), around seven years ago.
The drama is an adaptation of a vertically readable manga by webtoon studio "SORAJIMA," which has been viewed over 100 million times in Japan. It is a revenge love suspense story about a husband who has been diagnosed with a malignant tumor and is given only a short time left to live. One day, he learns of his wife's affair and sets out on a quest for revenge to protect the future of his beloved son.
Shirasu, who plays the main character, Aoi Takasaka, who is hit by the tragedy of illness and his wife's betrayal, but grows stronger for his son, said, "As a parent myself, I would like to use my own experiences and act with determination. It is a powerful work with many powerful words that has a strong impact, but there is a reason for everything. I hope to be able to sensitively portray the inner thoughts of us who go through such conflicts and make various decisions as a human drama."
Sakurai, who plays the "monster wife" Takasaka Mizuki, who learns that her husband Aoi has only a short time left to live and plots to get all of his inheritance by conspiring with his lover, the company president, commented, "Actually, this is my first time playing a married role. I've never played a wife in a happy family before, so suddenly, I'm having an affair...to be honest, I'm nervous (laughs)." She revealed that she cut about 20 centimeters of her hair in order to imagine Mizuki, and said with determination, "I'm going to play the role with that much resolve!"
TV Asahi General Producer Okawa Takehiro said, "We have achieved the perfect casting with Shirasu and Sakurai, who can embody both the characters and themes of this work. We aim to create an overwhelmingly entertaining production to live up to the spirit of challenge shown by these two actors, who took on this project with such an aggressive title."
He also introduced that the script for this series will be written by a team of writers who are alumni of the TV Asahi Newcomer Scenario Award, and urged viewers to "look forward to this talented creative team."
