It has been announced that a new anime series, "Cyborg 009 Nemesis," based on the popular manga "Cyborg 009" by Shotaro Ishinomori, will be released in 2026. It has also been announced that the theme song for the new series will be "For Whom?"
The song is also known as the theme song for the 1979 TV anime "Cyborg 009." Ishinomori himself wrote the lyrics, which express the fate, sadness, and determination of the cyborg warriors. Kyoko, who is also active as a member of "BARBEE BOYS," will sing the classic song. A teaser PV featuring "For Whom" has been released, along with the first visual of Cyborg 009/Shimamura Joe.
Kyoko commented, "I, Kyoko, have had the honor of singing the theme song 'For Whom'. 'Cyborg 009' is a series that I have been familiar with since I was a child, and I am truly honored to have been able to participate in singing for such a long-established series! I was nervous during the recording, as I wanted to respect not only the series but also the worldview of the song 'For Whom', but Sato Yosuke arranged it, and I think it has turned out to be a new 'For Whom' that is Kyoko's own style. I hope you enjoy the theme song along with the series."
"Cyborg 009" is a manga that depicts Joe Shimamura and nine other warriors who have been turned into cyborgs by the evil Black Ghost Gang, fighting for justice alongside Dr. Gilmore. The series began serialization in Weekly Shonen King (Shonen Gahosha) in 1964, and was also serialized in Shonen Sunday (Shogakukan) and Monthly Shonen Jump (Shueisha). 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the series' creation, and in the same year saw the first stage adaptation and a remake as a vertically read full-color comic.
