Another visual for the re-edited theatrical version of the short anime "Galaxy Express Milky Subway," titled "Galaxy Express Milky Subway: Local Train to the Theater," has been released. The visual was created by Yorokov, a popular social media account that posts adaptations of movie posters and flyers. The visual features characters such as Chiharu and Makina standing side by side in vibrant colors, giving off an atmosphere reminiscent of classic idol movies.
Yorokov commented, "When I first heard about it, I seriously doubted for a moment, thinking, 'Are they really going to hire me? Or is this a real offer...?' But the next moment I immediately replied, 'Please let me do it!' I was also thinking, 'I'll definitely go see the film adaptation,' so I was surprised, but at the same time, I never thought I'd be involved in a work I love in this way, so I'm truly honored."
Regarding the visual design, he explained, "I was given a lot of freedom in response to the request to create another visual that evokes the Showa era, and in the end I completed a design that looks like an '80s manga-based idol movie.' I hope people will enjoy the retro textures and colors, the slightly nostalgic layout, and the 'loose' feel that doesn't really convey the appeal of the work in a good way." He added, "I'm really looking forward to being able to experience that intense climax on a big screen and with sound in the theatrical version, and I can't wait for it to be released as I think there will be new discoveries in the new scenes."
Director Kameyama Yohei said of the other visuals, "It's the best! It makes me grin from ear to ear (laughs). There's just so much information packed into it, the texture of each photo is not consistent, and even the fact that "Crisis in one fell swoop!?" is written in katakana - it's packed with the exquisite tackiness of that era and time, which is really fascinating. I've always enjoyed seeing Yorokov's various adapted poster designs for MARVEL works, so I'm very happy that they're creating something for "Milky Subway." Thank you very much!"
"Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway" is a sequel to "Milky☆Highway," a short 3D animation that Kameyama, then a student at a video vocational school, released on YouTube in 2022 as his graduation project. It was broadcast on television from July 2025 and also distributed on YouTube, where it has gained popularity, with the total number of views on the official YouTube channel exceeding 200 million. The re-edited theatrical version will re-edit all 12 episodes and add new parts. It will be released on February 6th.
