An interview video of actor Gerard Butler talking about his thoughts on the crime action film "Outlaws" (directed by Christian Gudegast, released on January 23rd), starring Butler, as well as new stills, were released on January 21st.
This film is a sequel to "The Outlaw," which was released in 2018. It will be released in the US in January 2025 and recorded the highest opening day box office revenue (according to Box Office Mojo). A third film has already been confirmed.
As in the previous film, Butler stars as unconventional detective Nick O'Brien, who captivates viewers with his tense gunfights and clever tactics. Jackson Jr., son of rapper Ice Cube, will reprise his role as Donnie Wilson, Nick's nemesis and the most dangerous robber he ever let go. The film will be directed, executive produced, and written by director Gudegast, who was highly praised for his previous work.
Nick (Butler), a Los Angeles County Sheriff's detective on leave, heads alone to Europe to track down Donnie (Jackson Jr.), who went on the run after a bank robbery. Nick learns that Donnie is working with a criminal organization that is repeatedly committing thefts, and he becomes embroiled in a grand plan to rob the world's largest diamond exchange. Various schemes and betrayals intertwine, and the story develops into an unexpected alliance... and so it goes.
The newly released footage features an interview with Butler, who appeared at a special preview event for the film held in New York last year. Butler, who was very pleased with the finished product, said, "This film has evolved to the next level. The locations, story, and scale are all great! It's like an epic journey, and very cinematic."
Butler, who was initially offered the role of a gangster in the previous film, explained about the character he ended up playing, "Big Nick is my favorite character, and he's a bit of a normal guy." He compared him to the brave Spartan king he played in "300" (2007), saying, "He's a different type from Leonidas."
Furthermore, regarding the car chase scene using the electric vehicle Porsche Taycan, he said, "It's my favorite scene of all time," adding, "The action is cool, and the whole movie is exquisite!" and "It's truly an attraction. You should definitely see it in the theater."
