Entertainer Tsutomu Sekine will appear on the variety show "Ogiyahagi's Car History NO CAR, NO LIFE!" (BS Nippon TV, Saturday 9pm), which will be broadcast on January 17th.
Sekine was a member of the car club during his university days. He wanted his own car, but his family didn't have one, so he reluctantly joined the club. However, his naive plan of "I thought I'd just be able to travel around the country by car" was foiled, and he reveals his super-sports-oriented activities.
Sekine's first car was a first-generation Toyota Corolla, a memorable model that his older brother bought for him second-hand, and he asked a classmate to do some crazy modifications to it.
At the age of 27, he got his hands on a Nissan Sunny California, with its distinctive wood paneling on the sides. Sekine says that this car model left a deep trauma in his car life, as one day while driving with his wife, before they were married, he experienced a humiliating incident. "We were driving over Usui Pass..." "That was a traumatic experience..." he says, revealing the reason why it influenced his subsequent car choices.
He also looks back on the drives he took with his young daughter Mari. Now that he is a doting grandfather, he candidly confesses how he devotes himself to "grandchild activities."
