The drama series "Winter Something, Spring Something" (NTV, Wednesdays at 10pm), starring actress Hana Sugisaki, was broadcast on January 14th. The episode featured a scene in which novelist Fumina Tsuchida (Sugisaki) exchanges words with hairdresser Yukio Saeki (Narita) whom she meets at a laundromat, sparking a stir on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers.
In the first episode, novelist Fumina is waiting for her laundry to finish while listening to music at a nearby laundromat and writing down words in the notebook she carries with her every day to organize her thoughts. There, the laundry machine at the laundromat breaks down, and she meets Yukio, a hairdresser who happens to be using the laundromat.
In the episode, Fumina has a casual conversation with Yukio, who is a fan of "Michelle Gun Elephant," whose music was leaking from Fumina's earphones. Yukio says he's about to return to the salon to hang out the towels, and Fumina is surprised, saying, "That must be a lot of work, all those towels," to which Yukio replies matter-of-factly, "Well, it's just part of everyday life." Fumina then mutters, "I see. It's just part of everyday life," and Yukio nods, "Yes, it is part of everyday life," and the two remain silent. Then, out of curiosity, Fumina follows Yukio to the salon.
Yukio calls out to Fumina, who is watching her hang out towels at the hair salon, saying, "Is this interesting? Watch." Fumina replies, "It is interesting, because it's a view you don't normally see," to which Yukio murmurs, "I see... so to someone, this is a view." Fumina then says, "People can only live to be about 100 years old at the longest, right? That means there are more people who never get to see or encounter scenery they'll never see. And then they die. But actually, these extraordinary experiences are close by, even if you don't take a special trip. It's just a matter of whether you notice them or not. So I'm having a really luxurious time right now."
The scene where Fumina and Yukio have a casual conversation became a hot topic on social media, with comments such as "This natural dialogue is so comfortable," "I love the atmosphere between these two," and "The vibe is just amazing."
