The second part of the new chapter, "Season 4" of "NHK Special The Hot Spot: The Last Paradise," a large-scale NHK nature documentary program in which singer-songwriter and actor Masaharu Fukuyama travels around the world, is titled "Touring the Galapagos, a wild paradise undergoing rapid change," and will be broadcast on General TV from 9:15 p.m. on January 4th.
For this program, Fukuyama has traveled to over 20 countries around the world since 2011, observing the ecology of endangered wild animals and the mysteries of evolution. In the latest installment, marking the 15th year of the program, Fukuyama sets foot on the Galapagos Islands, known as the "laboratory for evolution."
The program features scoop footage of sea lions hunting giant tuna, and shows the reality of mysterious hybrids and invasive species born from global warming that are sustaining the lives of endemic giant tortoises. Humans and nature are intertwined, and the ecosystem is changing drastically to the point of no return. The program follows the creatures of this "new era" in the Galapagos and around the world. What answer did Fukuyama arrive at when asked, "What is nature?"
The guests will be Fukuyama, announcer Kuwako Maho, and Jun Yabe from the National Museum of Nature and Science, who served as the overall supervisor of the "Great Extinction Exhibition."
