The popular mystery novel by Yukito Ayatsuji , which was said to be "impossible to film," has been adapted into a drama starring The Decagon House Murders Tomoya Oku and Aoki Munetaka, and will be broadcast on Nippon Television from 1:24 a.m. on December 30th (Kanto local).
" The Decagon House Murders" is the first in Ayatsuji's "House" series, which consists of nine full-length mystery novels, starting with "The Decagon House Murders" (1987) and "The Strange Mask House Murders." The TV series stars his wife as Konan, a former mystery research club member, while Aoki Munetaka plays Shimada, who teams up with Konan to investigate the mystery of the "letter from the dead." Nakamura Toru plays Nakamura Seiji, a genius architect who is a key figure in the series. The members of the mystery research club who become embroiled in the tragedy at the Decagon House are played by Ayumu Mochizuki, Neru Nagahama, Imai Yuki, Suzuki Kosuke, Kobayashi Daito, Yonekura Reia, Rukiya, and Kikuchi Kazusumi.
The phrase "filming the 'unfilmable'" is often used as a sales pitch and is inevitably cliched, but this is a great work in which promising young actors tackle this contradictory proposition with sincerity. Streamed on Hulu, it was well received and a second installment, "The Clock Mansion Murders," is scheduled to be released in February 2026.
There will be a total of five episodes, with episodes 1, 2, and 3 airing from 1:24 a.m. on December 30th, and episodes 4 and 5 airing from 5:25 a.m. on January 3rd, 2026.
