It has been revealed that Nagase Ren of the popular group "King & Prince" will be appearing in the TBS Sunday Theatre "Reboot" (Sundays at 9pm) in January 2026. He will play the role of an underworld organization that becomes involved with the lead actor, Suzuki Ryohei, who plays a corrupt detective.
The story is an extreme family suspense drama in which Hayase Riku, an ordinary pastry chef played by Suzuki, is framed for the murder of his wife and, in order to prove his innocence and find the real culprit, abandons his beloved family and past and transforms (reboots) into the face of Gido, a corrupt detective at the Metropolitan Police Department. The script is written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, who has worked on many hit Sunday Theatre shows such as "Grand Maison Tokyo," "TOKYO MER: Running Emergency Room," and "My Family."
Nagase plays Fuyuhashi Wataru, an employee of an NPO that rescues homeless children, and an executor of the dark organization of Goroku Wataru, played by Kitamura Yukiya. He also serves as a liaison to Gido and monitors him to make sure he is not disobeying Goroku's orders. Nagase says, "This character has the most violent aspects of any role I have played so far."
It has also been revealed that Fujisawa Suzuka from "Mrs. GREEN APPLE" will be appearing in the drama. This will be Fujisawa's first appearance in a TV drama, and he will play Kiriya Naoto, who forms a unique buddy relationship with Fuyuhashi. He is a cheerful character with exceptional communication skills. Although he uses bad language and is frivolous, he is someone who faithfully follows Fuyuhashi's orders. He commented, "Although he is clumsy, Kiriya has his own strong love for him, and it is really moving to see a glimpse of those feelings. I tried my best to play Kiriya, keeping that in mind. I hope you will all watch over him kindly."
◇ Comment from Nagase Ren
I was really happy and excited to be invited to appear in Sunday Theatre again. The script written by Kuroiwa-san was very interesting, with a dark atmosphere overall and a complex, intertwined storyline, so at first I was so engrossed in it that I forgot to think about how to play my role, and as I continued reading I was naturally drawn into the world of the story.
The character I play, Fuyuhashi, is the most violent of all the characters I have played so far. However, he is not just violent; he has hidden sadness and a purpose, and is portrayed as a conflicted person, not just evil. In this work, "Reboot," not only he, but each character has their own sense of justice. I was very honored to have had the opportunity to play the role of Fuyuhashi, who sticks to his own sense of justice, and I am grateful to producers Higashinaka and Kuroiwa.
Ryohei is a very reliable person, and his uncompromising attitude towards every single scene was truly charming. There are many things I respect about him, and I learned a lot from working with him while watching his big back.
Because there is a difference in physique, I am trying to act while maintaining my mental strength so that I can stand up to Ryohei's overwhelming aura and intimidation and remain unafraid when facing him as Fuyuhashi, so I hope you will watch over me.
The story unfolds at a furious pace, with each episode having a moment that will take your breath away. It's a work that can be enjoyed no matter how many times you watch it, so if you watch it the first time while trying to work out the reasons behind the events, and then the next time, after you understand the whole truth, you can focus on each character and realize what they were doing at that time! This will give you a deeper enjoyment of the work.
What I personally want you to pay attention to is the change in the relationship between Fuyuhashi and Hayase. With each episode, the way the relationship between the two and Fuyuhashi's stance change has been extremely rewarding for me to play. Please look forward to this reboot, which you won't want to miss even a second of!
◇ Comment from Suzuka Fujisawa
I am very honored that my first drama series will be on Sunday Theatre. I started by learning how to read a script as I read the story. The story is serious overall, with deep skepticism about who is friend and who is foe, and with every turn of the page there are breathtaking scenes that draw me in. Even in this dark atmosphere, my character Kiriya seems a little more relaxed than the other characters, and there is something comforting about his relaxed nature... But even that seems to harbor something hidden... As I continued to read, it was extremely difficult for me to get to grips with Kiriya's inner self, right up until the very end.
Although he is clumsy, Kiriya has his own strong love, and it's really touching to see a glimpse of those feelings. I tried my best to portray Kiriya, keeping that in mind. I hope you will watch over him with kindness.
I was completely clueless and just threw myself into the role, but Suzuki Ryohei always gave me kind advice, which I'm truly grateful for. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to appear in my first drama series under the direction of Ryohei, who has a passion for acting and values the atmosphere on set.
There are many serious scenes, but the most important theme of this work is "family love." There are many different types of families in this story. Their love and beliefs intersect, sometimes clashing and sometimes mixing. I think you will enjoy the tension of the bargaining that occurs in these parts.
Comment from producer Keigo Higashinaka
Two new cast members have been announced, who will be deeply involved in the protagonist's fate. They will play "life-sized young people." They are suffering and struggling, but desperately trying to survive in the present. Although they have contrasting personalities, they cannot exist without each other. They are also a unique buddy pair.
I asked Nagase to play a character who harbors hidden ambitions and beliefs deep in his heart, and who continues to struggle while suppressing his emotions. He is a complex character who is a mix of stillness and movement, and his inner emotions overflow and eventually explode, making it a very difficult role, but having worked with Nagase before, I was confident that he would be able to express it, so I created this character with him in mind.
On the other hand, Fujisawa-san, with his natural ability to brighten up the atmosphere, played a character who, despite working behind the scenes, somehow never sank into the shadows. The character, which combines realism and lightness, is something that only Fujisawa-san could achieve.
The addition of these two brings a new dynamic and warmth to the story, and their presence as a buddy duo takes on a new shape. The relationship between the two is both endearing and heartbreaking. And will they become the protagonist's "enemy" or "ally"? Please look forward to it.
