A special edition comic "Gintama Character Remix Sakata Gintoki" (Shueisha), which focuses on Sakata Gintoki, the main character of Sorachi Hideaki's popular manga "Gintama," was released on December 4th. This is the latest in Shueisha's special selection series "JUMP Character REMIX," which focuses on each character in Shueisha's manga and carefully selects episodes, and is a book that allows you to enjoy the charm of Sakata Gintoki.
The series is divided into three chapters. Chapter 1, "Sakata Gintoki's Nakedness," contains an episode full of gags, while Chapter 2, "Sakata Gintoki's Way," focuses on Sakata Gintoki's interactions with the Yorozuya, Shinsengumi, and the people of Kabukicho, and follows him as he protects his friends. Chapter 3, "Sakata Gintoki's Journey," focuses on his encounters and farewells with his mentor, Shoyo, and his friends at Shoka Sonjuku, and depicts Gintoki's rebirth as a person, Sakata Gintoki, a Yorozuya employee, after wandering the battlefield.
The first page of the book features a double-sided pinup of "Sakata Gintoki Chronicle" and "Sakata Gintoki Fourteen Faces." At the end of the book, there is an afterword by the author, Sorachi, talking about Gintoki, as well as a newly drawn illustration.
"Gintama" is set in a fictional Edo, and the story follows Sakata Gintoki as he solves various cases brought to Yorozuya with his friends Shinpachi and Kagura. The series began serialization in December 2003 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), and the final episode aired in June 2019.
The first season of the TV anime aired from 2006 to 2010, the second from 2011 to 2013, the third from 2015 to 2016, and the fourth from 2017 to 2018. The theatrical anime "Gintama: The Movie - The Red Cherry Blossom Arc" was released in 2010, and "Gintama: The Movie - The Final Chapter - Be Forever Yorozuya" was released in 2013. The theatrical version "Gintama: The Movie - The Final Chapter - Be Forever Yorozuya" was released in 2021. The TV anime "3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei," based on a spin-off of the "Gintama" spin-off "Gintama: 3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei," is currently airing on TV Tokyo. A new theatrical anime "New Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames" will be released on February 13, 2026.
