The official trailer for the original anime "Super Kaguyahime!" has been released. This is the first feature-length directorial work by Seigo Yamashita, who has worked on the opening videos for popular series such as the first season of the TV anime " Jujutsu Kaisen Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man." The work is a "music anime" with a story inspired by the classic "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," and is also attracting attention for the music provided by a stellar cast of Vocaloid producers. The trailer also features the main theme song "Ex-Otogibanashi," a new song written by ryo of the creative group "supercell," and a new song written by the creative unit "HoneyWorks," "I Like Myself."
The first half of the trailer shows a baby Kaguya emerging from a shining, rainbow-colored "gaming telephone pole" as Kaguya, played by Yuko Natsuyoshi, sings "I Love Myself." In the second half, the setting shifts to the virtual world of Tsukuyomi, where "Ex-Otogibanashi" is sung by Tsukimi Yachiyo, played by Saori Hayami Saori, the caretaker and singer of Tsukuyomi. The trailer also includes a scene in which Kaguya declares that she will aim to become Tsukuyomi's top idol as a streamer (liver) by singing a song written by Ayaha. A line reminiscent of farewell appears towards the end of the trailer.
The main visual was also released, depicting Kaguya holding a microphone and Sakayori Ayaka holding a keyboard instrument.
It was also announced that Kugimiya Rie will be joining the cast. Kugimiya will play Fushi, a fluffy sea slug who acts as Yachiyo's partner and guides Tsukuyomi together. "Despite his cute and fluffy appearance, Fushi has a surprisingly clear personality, so it was fun to play him. I hope you'll pay attention to how Fushi plays a part in the story, and I'd be more than happy if you enjoy the story as a whole. Thank you very much!" she commented.
Character visuals for Kaguya and Iyaha have been released, revealing that Hechima will be in charge of character design within Tsukuyomi, while Nagae Akihiro will be in charge of character design in the real world.
It was also announced that Ryo will release new CDs, "CPK! Remix" and "Ex-Otogibanashi," on January 23, 2026. The singles will be reconstructed with a focus on songs originally created for the anime "Super Kaguyahime!" Details of the tracks included will be announced at a later date.
It has also been decided that "Super Kaguyahime!" will be adapted into a comic and a novel. The comic, drawn by Yoneda Taro, will be published in the February issue of the magazine "Comptiq" (KADOKAWA), on sale from Getsuku, 2026, with the first and second chapters being serialized in "Comic Comp" (same publisher). The comic will be released on February 10, 2026. The novelization will be written by Kiriyama Naruto and will be fully supervised by director Yamashita, and will include many additional scenes not found in the main story. It will be released on January 30, 2026.
The story is about the bond between girls connected by song. One day, 17-year-old high school student Ayaka Sakayori, who leads an incredibly busy life juggling part-time work and studies, meets Kaguya, who appears from inside a gaming utility pole shining in seven colors.
Studio Colorido, known for "Penguin Highway," and Studio Chromat, led by director Yamashita, are teaming up to produce the anime. Music will be provided by a stellar cast of Vocaloid producers, including ryo from "supercell," kz from "livetune," 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot. The main cast includes Natsuyoshi as Kaguya, Nagase Anna as Sakyo Saiha, and Hayami as Tsukimi Yachiyo. The film will be available worldwide exclusively on Netflix from January 22, 2026.
