It has been revealed that Naoki Prize-winning author Ogawa Satoshi's bestselling novel "Kimi no Quiz" will be adapted into a live-action film. The film will be directed by Yoshino Kohei, who has worked on the "Haken Anime!" and "The Silent Service" series, and will be released in 2026. Details such as the cast and release date will be revealed at a later date.
"Kimi no Quiz" is a novel published by Ogawa in 2022 that won the 76th Mystery Writers of Japan Award. In the final round of the live quiz show "Q-1 Grand Prix," where participants compete for a prize of 10 million yen, in a one-on-one buzzer quiz, protagonist Mishima's opponent, Honjo Kizuna, answers the question correctly without even being read a single character of the question. How did Honjo manage to get the answer right? The story follows. It has been praised by celebrities such as author Isaka Kotaro and TV producer Nobuyuki Sakuma, and has sold over 260,000 copies (as of October 21).
A special preview was also released, showing the back of the contestant with the question, "Why was the opponent in the final of a quiz show able to get the answer right without hearing a single letter of the question?" flashing, and flashing images of the buzzer buttons and the show's set appear, creating an impressive message that reads, "This is a quiz for the whole nation."

This work, which began with the hypothesis that a "buzzer quiz" would actually be a good match for a novel, since both the questions and answers are written in text, is now being made into a film, and as the original author, I am extremely excited.
Although quizzes and novels go well together, it's also true that some elements cannot be fully expressed when translated into text. The contestant's facial expressions and breathing, the tension after pressing the button, their body movements and subtle gestures, and the sound of the ping-pong ring... I'm really looking forward to seeing Director Yoshino bring to everyone the charm of quizzes that couldn't be fully conveyed in the original work.

It was so fascinating that I decided to try my hand at filming it immediately after reading it. Looking back, perhaps I should have paused and thought about it a little more. Could we really reconstitute the excitement of this novel into sound and video...? We ended up taking on the greatest challenge in history: adapting it into a film. The film "Your Quiz" was made possible thanks to some good fortune and countless encounters. I look forward to the day when we can send out our own answer to the world.
