Yoshiyuki Kozu, the composer and husband of Meiko Nakamura, who passed away two years ago, appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on October 15th, along with singer and actor Kumiko Mori. They spoke about Meiko's final moments.
Meiko passed away on December 31, 2023. "I feel lonely. I can do other jobs, but I can't compose music. I can arrange music and things like that, but when I write a song, I can't help but layer it. I feel more and more lonely," he said, revealing his current feelings.
When Tetsuko asked Kozu, "I heard that the last moment before Meiko passed away was the most honest moment you've ever been?"
"I was about to put her to sleep when (Meiko) said, 'She seems a little strange, so wake her up,' so I woke her up. She then said, 'Stay like that for a while,' so I did. She hooked her index finger around my little finger. We did that for about 10 minutes, as if we were holding hands. As we were doing that (Meiko's hand relaxed) and my finger just slipped out. That's when (Meiko) became out of breath."
Kozu called out to Meiko loudly, but there was no response.
Tetsuko was surprised and said, "Really? It was like a play. It was exactly the end that Meiko thought she would have." Kozu added, "She was a rather exaggerated person. I was always wondering if Meiko's movements were real and not just an act."
