It has been announced that the popular manga "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan), will be on hiatus for a while. The series has also been adapted into a TV anime, and has sold over 30 million copies in total.
The series' official account (@FRIEREN_PR) announced, "Regarding the publication of the next issue onwards, Yamada Kaneiri and Tsukasa Abe have consulted with the editorial department in light of their physical condition. Going forward, we will be taking a break from the series for a while in order to continue the story while adjusting the serialization pace and publication format."
"The two authors are still writing. The editorial department will continue to support them. The specific publication date will be announced in a future issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday. We hope you will continue to support ' Frieren: Beyond Journey's End'," the statement continued.
"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is a manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe Abe, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020. Frieren is a magician in the hero's party who defeated the Demon King. As an elf, she lives a long life. After experiencing the death of a companion, she embarks on a journey to "discover people." The manga has been nominated for the Manga Taisho 2021, the Newcomer Award at the 25th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize, the 69th (2023) Shogakukan Manga Award, and the Boys' Category at the 48th Kodansha Manga Award.
The first season of the TV anime aired on Nippon Television's anime slot "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (Fura-ani)" from September 2023 to March 2024. The second season will air on "Fura-ani" every Friday at 11:00 PM starting January 16, 2026.
