The original work is a manga of the same name by Natsuko Taniguchi, currently being serialized in the digital comic magazine "Comic Tanto" (Bunkasha). Yamagishi Ayumi (Kaho), who always puts her lover first, and Ebihara Katsuo, who has a patriarchal mentality, have been dating since their university days. After living together, Katsuo proposes marriage, but Ayumi's response is an unexpected "no." Through cooking, Katsuo reexamines the things he took for granted and grows as a person.
Katsuo was dumped by Ayumi. His junior colleague Minamigawa (Kyoka) gave him some advice: "If you try making Chikuzenni, you might be able to understand how your ex-girlfriend (Ayumi) feels."
"Make it? Me? Cook?" Katsuo struggles to understand as he heads to the supermarket. Checking the recipe on his smartphone, he searches for mirin and sake, but is perplexed as he sees the shelves lined with numerous products and asks, "Which one?" After purchasing all the ingredients and paying the bill, the total comes to 4,380 yen. "That's expensive!" he exclaims, shocked, and can't help but ask the clerk, "You're sure I got it right?"
When Katsuo finally got home, he sighed, "I'm tired. I have to start cooking now." He started by washing the vegetables, but he left the tap water running the whole time he was checking the recipe and searching for a peeler.
On social media, the show became a hot topic, with comments such as, "The high resolution of the people who can't cook was so sharp it hurt but also made me laugh," "The scene where they left the tap running when they started to cook was especially great," "Turn off the water!" "Prepare before you start lol Water isn't free lol," "It was hilarious how everyone was getting mad and telling them to turn off the water," "It was funny that the ingredients for Chikuzenni cost over 4,000 yen at the supermarket lol I wonder what kind of expensive ingredients they bought lol," and "The scene where they were cooking Chikuzenni was really funny. Just going shopping is exhausting."
