The poster visual for "Gamera EXPO," an exhibition and merchandise event being held as part of the 60th anniversary project for the monster movie "Gamera" series, has been released. The visual features all six Gamera figures from the Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras, accompanied by the tagline, "Now is the time to rediscover Gamera." The latest Gamera sculpture, created by monster designer Mikio Takahama for the "Gamera 50th Anniversary Commemorative Video 'GAMERA,'" was also unveiled. The latest Gamera sculpture will be exhibited at the event. The event will be held at Yurakucho Marui (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) from November 22nd to December 7th.
As part of the 60th anniversary project, the "Showa Gamera Film Festival" will be held from December 5th at Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) and other locations. The festival will screen 4K digital restorations of the first film in the series, "Gamera: The Giant Monster" (1965), the second film, "Gamera vs. Barugon" (1966), and the third film, "Gamera vs. Gyaos" (1967). The 4K digital restorations were overseen by director Shinji Higuchi, who served as special effects director for "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe," "Gamera 2: Invasion of Legion," and "Gamera 3: The Awakening of Iris," along with Shunichi Ogura, who has overseen the 4K digital restoration of many other classic films. A trailer and cuts from the 4K digital restoration have been released.
Starting November 21st, the Heisei Gamera trilogy, consisting of the first film "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe," the second film "Gamera 2: Invasion of Legion," and the third film "Gamera 3: The Awakening of Iris," will be screened in theaters one after another in Dolby Cinema versions.
Gamera is a monster that appears in the special effects film "Gamera the Giant Monster," released by Daiei in 1965, and is modeled after a turtle. He is a child who protects people from danger to the Earth, a champion of justice, and flies in a circular saucer shape. Since "Gamera the Giant Monster," a total of eight films have been produced as the "Showa Gamera" series, including "Space Monster Gamera." Other series include the "Heisei Gamera" series and "Little Braves: Gamera." In 2023, the anime "GAMERA -Rebirth-" began streaming on Netflix. The series was also broadcast on NHK General TV.
