The release of the "ROBOT Spirits (Ka signature) <SIDE MS> Prototype Rick Dias" figure (Bandai Spirits) of the Prototype Rick Dias, which appears in the "M-MSV" project of the popular anime series "Gundam," has been much talked about. This will be the first time that it will be made into a three-dimensional figure in the "ROBOT Spirits (Ka signature)" series, overseen by Hajime Katoki.
◇First Gundarium γ
The Prototype Rick Dias is a mobile suit (MS) created by Kunio Okawara in "M-MSV." It is a prototype of the Rick Dias that appeared in "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam," and was developed primarily by engineers who came from the Principality of Zeon to Anaheim Electronics. It is also the first mobile suit to use Gundarium γ (Gamma), an improved version of the Lunar Titanium alloy.
Before the announcement that the Prototype Rick Dias would be commercialized, the name of the machine was kept secret and it was announced that "a prototype MS made from Gundarium γ (Gamma) alloy begins its deployment," which became a hot topic, but it seems that some fans predicted that the Prototype Rick Dias would be commercialized based on the limited information available.
It also features a large backpack that was not installed on the official model, and is equipped with thruster binders and a large beam saber. The clay bazooka has a spare magazine in the butt.
◇Connection with Rick Dias
The figure reproduces the design, coloring, and armament of the "M-MSV," while creating a form that gives a sense of connection to the Rick Dias from "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam."
The Vulcan Phalanx firearm built into the Rick Dias is believed to be installed on the prototype model as well. The exterior of the top of the head opens, and it has a gimmick that allows the twin cannons to be deployed. The upper and lower parts of the thruster binder are movable, and it can be removed from the large backpack and attached to the shoulders by removing the cover parts.
There's a scene in "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam" where Rick Dias grabs and throws the Booster Binder, and this figure includes hand parts to hold the Thruster Binder, based on the same scene. In addition to its custom clay bazooka, it also comes with weapons common to Rick Dias, such as a beam pistol and clay bazooka. This first three-dimensional figure truly lives up to fans' expectations.
It stands approximately 13cm tall and costs 23,100 yen. Preorders are being accepted on Bandai Namco Group's shopping site, Premium Bandai. It is scheduled to ship in February 2026.
