The 33rd episode of the NHK Taiga drama " UNBOUND (Berabou) " (General TV, Sundays at 8pm and others), starring actor Ryusei Yokohama , entitled "Uchikowashientame no Kudoku" was broadcast on August 31st, depicting the final moments of Shinnosuke, played by Inowaki Kai.
" UNBOUND (Berabou)" is the 64th taiga drama and depicts the life of Tsutaya Juzaburo(or "Tsutajyu" for short), who is said to have laid the foundations for Japan's media industry and pop culture. The script was written by Yoshiko Morishita, who is known for her work on the highly talked-about "Drama 10: Ooku," which aired on NHK two years ago.
In the 33rd episode, a riot breaks out in Edo in the 7th year of Tenmei.
Shinnosuke and his men attack rice stores that are withholding rice one after another. When the news hits, the elder councilors are thrown into confusion, but Okitsugu(Ken Watanabe) calmly and accurately advises them. Meanwhile, Tsutae (Yokohama) visits Okitsugu and proposes a plan to distribute money instead of rice, so that the people can eventually buy more rice.
Eventually, "the man who was Jōemon" (played by Yano Masato) incites theft against the wishes of Shinnosuke and his friends, and the city falls into a state of lawlessness. Tsutaju then brings in Tomimoto Saigūdayū (played by Leon Niihama ), a performer of the Tomimoto school of Edo Jōruri, to try to calm the chaos, but at this point the man who was Jōemon goes on a violent rampage.
The man, Joemon, approaches Tsutaju with a small sword in hand. Shinnosuke steps in between them just in time, but is injured in the process. The tip of the blade appears to have been coated with poison, and Shinnosuke quickly loses his strength and dies.
Tsutaju is shocked by the death of Shinnosuke in front of her while protecting her. Utama (Sometani Shota) gently comforts her.
Viewers were naturally saddened by Shinnosuke's heartbreaking end, but the fact that this day marked the "33rd episode" also became a topic of discussion. The 33rd episode of the 2017 Taiga drama " Naotora: The Lady Warlord ," also written by Yoshiko Morishita , featured the legendary episode in which the Ii clan's chief retainer, Ono Masatsugu (played by Issei Takahashi), was impaled on the execution ground and executed by his childhood friend Naotora (played by Ko Shibasaki). He met a tragic end after being stabbed with a spear ("yari-don"). Inowaki, who played Shinnosuke in "UNBOUND," also played Ono Manpuku, Masatsugu's nephew, in "Naotora: The Lady Warlord."
As a result, comments were posted on social media such as, "Today was the 33rd episode... it must be the devilish Morishita episode...", "As expected, the 33rd episode was a sad one written by Yoshiko Morishita", "Does Yoshiko Morishita have a hobby of making the most handsome men die in the 33rd episode of her taiga dramas?
