The drama series "Chihayafuru -Meguri-" (NTV, Wednesdays at 10pm) starring actress Ami Touma has released the synopsis and stills for episode 8, which will air on August 27th.
In the first round of the Tokyo preliminaries, Meguru (Touma) and the rest of Umezono suddenly face off against the champion, Mizusawa. Mizusawa would have an overwhelming advantage, but Kusata (Soma Santoki)'s reading of the order works well, and there's a slight chance that they can win against Umezono. Meguru, who is up against Mizusawa's ace, Kenshin (Fujiwara Daisuke), also challenges him head-on, saying, "I'm not going to lose that easily."
Right from the start, Mizusawa takes the cards with blinding speed. Watching on, Tsuyoshi Shima (Kazuki Namioka) and Masato Shirano (Tsutaka Takahashi) grow anxious, but Kusata says, "We just have a long way to go." Umezono has dramatically improved over the past few months. Led by Yakumo (Aito Sakamoto), the team's only A-rank player, the others include Haruma (Kaito Takamura), with his keen sense of sound; Kazuki (Jun Saito), with his excellent reflexes and speed; Chieri (Rina Arashi), whose determination shines; and Megu, whose movements are streamlined and her memory memorization is unmatched. Megu, in particular, has grown so rapidly that even Kusata thinks, "Honestly, I don't want to make her my enemy." If they can utilize each of their strengths, they're sure to see results...
Meanwhile, in Kyoto, Kanade (Mone Kamishiraishi) is in the middle of the reader selection meeting. While Kanade is worried about Umezono's results, she tries to shake off her thoughts and focus on the selection meeting in front of her.
Umezono's match takes a turn for the worst. Yakumo, their only hope, is crushed by the pressure and panics, nearly destroying herself as her opponent Nagi (Nanoka Hara) takes one card after another. Megu tries to calm Yakumo down somehow. Meanwhile, Kazuki's old injury recurs, and his dominant right hand becomes unresponsive.
Umezono is faced with a series of crises and is in dire straits! Arata (Mackenyu) and Taichi (Shuhei Nomura) also appear, and the story moves towards its final chapter...
"Chihayafuru" is a manga by Yuki Suetsugu that was serialized in "BE・LOVE" (Kodansha) from 2007 to 2022. The story follows Ayase Chihaya, who awakens to the charms of competitive karuta through her encounter with transfer student Wataya Arata, and becomes passionate about the game alongside her childhood friend Mashima Taichi and the other unique members of the karuta club. The drama is an original story set 10 years after the trilogy of films "Kami no Ku" and "Shimo no Ku" in 2016 and "Musubi" in 2018.
