The 102nd episode of the NHK Asadora drama "Anpan " (General TV, Monday to Saturday 8:00 AM and other times), starring Mio Imada , was broadcast on August 19th, and included a scene in which Yagi ( Satoshi Tsumabuki) talks about his past to Ranko (Yuumi Kawai), which became a hot topic among viewers.
In episode 102, Ranko visits Yagi after rewriting the promotional copy for her beach sandals. After looking over the manuscript, Yagi gives the go-ahead, saying, "Okay, let's go with this," and Ranko looks pleased. Then Kasuya (Tanaka Shunsuke) suggests, "How about emphasizing this part and adding the word 'absolutely'?" However, Ranko replies, "I don't want to use the word 'absolutely.' That word is a no-no," and seeing this, Yagi respects Ranko's opinion, saying, "Let's go with this."
Ranko handed Yagi the magazine, saying, "My article is in this month's issue, if you'd like," to which Yagi replied, "I've already read it. I always read your articles." Yagi pointed out that Ranko's film reviews were good at first, but that recently they have become very critical. "The person who will be most unhappy with that kind of outlook is you, who loves movies," he said. In response to this sharp remark, Ranko replied, "What about you, Yagi? You always say nihilistic things, you don't open up to anyone, and you don't even have a family. I don't want to hear about love from someone like that," and left the room.
Later, Ranko visits the Yanai household and complains to Nobu (Imada) and Takashi (Takumi Kitamura), "Why is Yagi like that? He always says things that really cut people down." When Nobu says that Yagi is a caring and compassionate person, Ranko asks, "Have you been single all this time?" When Nobu replies, "It seems he had a family," and Takashi replies, "I haven't heard much about it, but it seems like he had a really hard time," Ranko reflects on what she said and mutters, "What should I do...?"
Later, Ranko visits Yagi and apologizes, saying, "I'm sorry for talking like I know something about you when I don't know anything about you," and asks, "What happened to your family during the war?" Yagi reveals his past, saying, "When I left for the front, I promised my wife and child that I would definitely return alive. When I finally returned, they had died in an air raid on Fukuoka. I didn't know why I had survived on the battlefield..." He adds, "But when I came to Tokyo and met orphans like Akira (Saito Tomoaki), I felt like I wanted to live for them again, even though I was like this."
After hearing Yagi's story, Ranko begins, "There was someone who told me that I would definitely come back alive." When Yagi asks, "Who was that person?" Ranko shakes her head and explains, "That's why I can't use the word 'absolutely'."
Comments on social media regarding the exchange between Yagi and Ranko included, "Yagi-san, you lost your family in the air raid after all...", "Ranko also lost Gou", "They both lost important people", "So you can't use the word 'absolutely'", "They're like-minded, I guess", "It was a good scene", and "What will happen to Yagi and Ranko?"
