Characters from "The Kidnapping Day" appear in the TV drama "The Great Chase" - a cross-disciplinary collaboration

The sixth episode of the TV Asahi drama series "The Great Chase: Metropolitan Police Department SSBC Violent Crimes Unit" (Wednesdays 9pm) aired on August 13th, and featured a collaboration that transcends the boundaries of different works, with cast members from the TV Asahi drama series "The Kidnapping Day," which airs on the same network at 9pm on Tuesdays.

Appearing in the sixth episode of "The Great Chase" are Shinjo Masamune, played by Saito Takumi, who also appeared in "The Kidnapping Day," and Nanase Rin, played by child actor Yuno Nagao. In a scene where the SSBC Violent Crimes Unit is sifting through security camera footage to search for traces of the perpetrator, the two are spotted blending into the footage in the parking lot.

This caught the eye of eagle-eyed viewers, with comments such as "Huh! That's Takumi and Yuzuno on The Kidnapping Day?!", "The Kidnapping Day and the same world line!!" and "Since it's the episode about the kidnapping, I guess they showed the two of them on The Kidnapping Day" appearing on social media.

This collaboration was born behind the scenes at a joint press conference (held on June 23rd) where all the cast members of TV Asahi's July dramas gathered together. Saito suggested, "We who are on the run should also be in a 'Great Chase'!" The cast and staff of both shows got excited, and the collaboration was realized in the sixth episode of "Great Chase," which depicts a kidnapping case.

"The Great Chase" stars Nao Omori, Masaki Aiba, and Nao Matsushita in an original detective drama set in the newly established "SSBC Violent Crimes Division" at the Metropolitan Police Department's Investigation Support and Analysis Center (SSBC), which is responsible for collecting and analyzing security camera footage and analyzing smartphones and computers.

"The Kidnapping Day" is based on the 2023 Korean drama of the same name, and is a mystery about a pseudo-father-daughter duo consisting of Shinjo Masamune (Saito), who becomes a kidnapper to pay for his daughter's heart surgery, and Nanase Rin (Nagao), a genius girl with amnesia whose parents were murdered, as they evade the pursuit of mysterious men and get closer to the truth of a murder case.
