The official trailer for the film "Treasure Island" (released September 19th, directed by Otomo Keishi), starring actor Satoshi Tsumabuki, has been released.
This live-action film is based on the masterpiece novel by Junjo Shindo, winner of the Naoki Prize in 2019. It is directed by Keishi Otomo, director of the NHK Taiga drama "Ryomaden" and the "Rurouni Kenshin" film series, and also stars Suzu Hirose, Masataka Kubota, and Eita Nagayama.
At the beginning of the film, the story is set in the time when Okinawa was under the control of the United States. Young people known as "Senka Agiya" are shown distributing supplies stolen from a US military base to local residents. The central characters are childhood friends On (Nagayama), Gusuku (Tsumabuki), Yamako (Hirose), and Rei (Kubota), who dream of one day achieving "great success in war." Among them, the oldest of the group, On, is a heroic figure who leads the group as their leader. On the night of one raid that they put everything on the line, On gets an "unexpected success" and suddenly disappears.
Eventually, Gusuku becomes a detective, Yamako becomes a teacher, and Rei becomes a yakuza, each walking their own path. In this turbulent time, as their sense of justice and determination to face a cruel fate intersect, Gusuku is faced with a gun pointed at him by Rei.
At the end of the film, a powerful scene of the Koza Riots is shown, with Gusuku screaming, "Can we get away with this? Can we get away with this?"
