It has been revealed that the anime series "One Punch Man," based on a manga currently being serialized on the web manga site "Tonari no Young Jump" (Shueisha), has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "Most people performing a "One Punch Man-Punch Man" Maji Naguri/Serious Punch." The record was attempted by fans who gathered at the "One Punch Man" panel venue at "Anime Expo 2025" held in Los Angeles, USA, and 1,107 people were recognized. This is the first time that the series has been recognized by the Guinness World Records.
The challenge this time involved fans at the venue performing the "Seriously Serious Punch," a special move that is emblematic of the main character Saitama. Fans and panel guests in the Guinness World Record Challenge area set up at the front of the venue performed the "Seriously Punch" action in unison to the shout of "Seriously Serious" by Makoto Furukawa, who plays Saitama, and 1,107 people were recognized as Guinness World Record holders. Furukawa expressed his delight, saying, "Thanks to all of you, we were able to get a Guinness World Record! We will continue to work hard with this momentum in the third season."Kaito Ishikawa, who plays Genos, who rushed in as a surprise guest, also said, "It was the best!"
At the event, comments were made by ONE, the original author, and Murata Yusuke, the illustrator, regarding the third season of the TV anime. ONE said, "I am truly looking forward to the broadcast of the third season of One Punch Man. We have come this far thanks to the support of all our fans. In the third season, the new exploits of the S-class heroes will be depicted in depth. I am deeply grateful to the production team for their passion in capturing the soul of the original manga in a fascinating way that only an anime can deliver. I am happy to be able to share this excitement with everyone! Please watch it with me. Thank you!"
Murata commented, "It seems that this year marks 10 years since the first season of the anime aired. Recently, when I meet my young nephews and nieces at family reunions, they tell me what they think of the anime. I'm amazed at how quickly time has passed, and it reminds me once again that the reason why it has been enjoyed for so long is thanks to the original author, ONE, the staff who support us, and above all, the fans who support us. And this year, the third season will finally start! I've been able to see the script, and I'll be looking forward to seeing how it turns out, just like all of you, as a fan. I hope you will continue to support us!"
The series was first serialized on a website by ONE in 2009, and the manga illustrated by Murata has been running in the magazine Tonari no Young Jump since 2012. It depicts the exploits of Saitama, a hero who has acquired invincible powers and can defeat any enemy with a single punch. The series has sold over 33 million copies in total.
The first season of the TV anime aired from October to December 2015, and the second season from April to July 2019. The third season will begin airing in October. It has also been announced that it will be adapted into a live-action Hollywood movie.
