Actor Koshi Mizukami appeared with co-star Ken Yasuda at the completion report meeting for WOWOW's drama series " Drama W Kaibutsu " held in Tokyo on June 25th. When asked about his impression of Yasuda, Mizukami said, "Yasuda's wrinkles, as they are called, are connected to the creepiness and sadness in this work," and revealed his respect for Yasuda, saying, "This is my own biased view, but I want to soon have a face that appears on the screen, one that gives off a sense of life, with wrinkles and all."
Yasuda laughed and said, "The moment I said wrinkles, flashes went off (cameras flashed)." Mizukami stopped Yasuda, saying, "Please listen to the end," and spoke passionately of his admiration for wrinkles and his respect for Yasuda, saying, "You can't just pinch wrinkles to make them. I want to be an actor who makes you feel something, like 'I guess he's laughing' or 'I guess he's getting angry'. (Yasuda is) an actor who perfectly embodies that."
After listening to Mizukami's comments, Yasuda was delighted and said, "I'm happy. Thank you. I'm glad I listened to the end. In short, I was able to feel the rings of life from him."
The drama is a remake of the popular Korean suspense drama "Monster." The original drama was produced by SLL, a major Korean studio that has produced many works such as " Itaewon Class" and "The Youngest Son of a Chaebol Family," and aired on JTBC in 2021. It won three awards at the Baeksang Arts Awards, Korea's most prestigious awards, including Best Drama, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor.
A case occurs in which Togashi Kotone (Itose Nanaba), a female university student living in Hatano Town, disappears, leaving only the first joint of her finger in the garden of her home. 25 years pass and the case remains unsolved. Togashi Hiroyuki (Yasuda), Kotone's twin brother, becomes a police officer and works in the Public Safety Division of Hatano Police Station. Career police officer Yashiro Masato (Mizukami) is transferred there. The two don't get along, but are ordered by the section chief Moridaira (Mitsuishi) to pair up. Then, during a patrol, they receive a call and go to search for an elderly person with dementia... and so the story unfolds.
"Drama W Kaibutsu" will start on July 6th. It will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Prime and WOWOW On Demand from 10pm on Sundays. There will be a total of 10 episodes, with the first episode being broadcast for free.
