The 57th episode of the NHK Asadora drama series "Anpan " (General TV, Monday to Saturday 8:00am and others), starring Mio Imada, was broadcast on June 17th. The story of the picture story is about two men who meet, unaware that they are twins who grew up on different islands, and start fighting over food. As they fight, one man ends up hurting in the same spot as the other, and when they wash their dirty faces, they realize that they look identical and are actually twins who grew up apart. The two men decide to stop fighting and help each other survive, joining hands and sharing what is lacking on each other's islands.
On the day of the performance, the Kamishibai story began in a solemn atmosphere, but gradually the villagers began laughing and applauding. The interpreter had translated the line, "Who are you? Don't come onto my island without permission!" as, "Are you a Japanese soldier? Don't come into my country!"
He further changed the line from "We were actually twins. We were born to the same parents and grew up apart" to "We look alike, but it's ridiculous that you and a violent guy like me are twin brothers," causing the villagers to burst into laughter. Taku was puzzled as to why people were laughing at something that was meant to make them cry. Although the message was conveyed in a different way than intended, the picture story was a success.
Various comments were posted on social media, such as "Today's MVP interpreter lol", "I'm glad it was a success. Nice assist from the interpreter", "I don't know if it was done with kindness or malice", and "I wonder what that interpreter was thinking when he made that intentional mistake...".
