New information on the Gunpla (plastic model) "PERFECT GRADE UNLEASHED 1/60 Nu Gundam" (Bandai Spirits), a model of the Nu Gundam that appears in the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack," was announced in a special program "Gunpla 45th Anniversary Special Streaming!" that was streamed on YouTube on June 3rd. This is the second release of "PG UNLEASHED," the "highest-end brand" of Gunpla, and it appears to be a Gunpla unlike any other before it.
◇ Heavy-duty internal frame
It is a 1/60 scale Gundam model that will be released in January 2026. It was designed based on the theme, "What if the Nu Gundam actually existed?", by analyzing the scenes and settings of the anime. The internal structure has been reproduced, and by attaching exterior parts to the skeletal internal frame, viewers can have the "experience of building an MS (Mobile Suit)". In a program broadcast on June 3rd, an external view of the internal frame was revealed.
Up until now, Gunpla models have mostly had frames that were mainly gray, but this one is molded in white, navy blue, yellow, and gray. Some parts are molded in metallic colors to give it a metal-like texture. Metal parts are used for the nozzles of the main thrusters and the firing ports of the head vulcans, giving it a heavy feel.
When the exterior parts are attached, you can see a glimpse of the internal structure through the gaps. Fans will also be happy to know that part of the exterior can be unfolded to reveal the internal frame.
◇Lots of information about the fin funnels!
Details of the fin funnels, the weaponry that represents the Nu Gundam, were also announced. There are six fin funnels, which can be connected. Not only can they be given facial expressions even when connected, but there seems to have been a lot of attention to detail, such as the fact that the connecting parts can be stored inside the fin funnels. Each one is said to be made up of around 50 parts, and the amount of information is surprising.
Gunpla was born in 1980 and is celebrating its 45th anniversary. With a history of continuous evolution, the "PERFECT GRADE UNLEASHED 1/60 Nu Gundam" is likely the culmination of the series to date. Although it is expensive at 66,000 yen, it seems to be a Gunpla worthy of being the "highest peak."
It was also announced that a dedicated LED unit, "PG UNLEASHED 1/60 Nu Gundam LED Unit," will be released in January 2026. The Nu Gundam's psycho frame and various parts, such as the head camera, twin camera eye, chest sensor, chest intake, and cockpit, will light up. It costs 15,400 yen, so if you add it to the main body... you might hesitate to buy it, but since the psycho frame is a characteristic of the Nu Gundam, you'll want to get it together.
