The film "Nobunaga Concerto" (directed by Matsuyama Hiroaki), which was released in 2016 and starred actor Shun Oguri, will be broadcast on Fuji TV's "Saturday Premium" slot (Saturday 9pm) on June 7th. Based on the popular manga of the same name by Ishii Ayumi, the film was made as part of the "Fuji TV 55th Anniversary Project" after being made into an anime and a live-action drama. Oguri plays two roles: a high school student who travels back in time to the Sengoku period and Oda Nobunaga.
"Nobunaga Concerto" is a film adaptation of the sequel to the final episode of the drama that was broadcast in 2014 as the first period drama in Fuji TV's "Getsuku" slot. It depicts what happens after the TV drama, which depicts high school student Saburo (Oguri) who travels back in time to the Warring States period, meeting his lookalike Oda Nobunaga (Oguri, playing two roles), and his efforts to unify the country on behalf of the sickly Nobunaga. The story is centered around the time of the Honnoji Incident, and the movie version has an original ending.
At first, Saburo was reluctant to become Nobunaga, but after witnessing the devastation of war, he resolved to live as Oda Nobunaga and try to create a world without war. Saburo, who was tone deaf to history, did things exactly as they happened in history, including the Battle of Okehazama, his journey to Kyoto, and his battles with Azai Nagamasa and Yoshikage Asakura... and finally completed Azuchi Castle. Just when he thought he was close to unifying the country, he happened to pick up a history textbook and learned that he was destined to die soon.
There are many enemies targeting Nobunaga. Hideyoshi (Takayuki Yamada), who resents him and is waiting for an opportunity to assassinate him, and the real Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide (Oguri), who is jealous of him, are also waiting for an opportunity to take him down. Mitsuhide has come to hate Saburo, who has won the trust of his retainers, including Ikeda Tsuneoki (Osamu Mukai), and the love of his wife, Kicho (Ko Shibasaki), despite having given up his position as Nobunaga himself.
As death draws near, Nobunaga decides to fight back against his fate and survive. As a sign of this, he plans to marry Kicho. The location is Honnoji Temple in Kyoto. When Hideyoshi finds out, he proposes to Mitsuhide that they kill Nobunaga at Honnoji Temple. The battle situation becomes more intense with each passing moment. Will Nobunaga be able to change history and build a peaceful country? What awaits him at Honnoji Temple in 1582?
Other cast members include Fujigaya Taisuke from Kis-My-Ft2 as Maeda Toshiie, Mizuhara Kiko as Nobunaga's sister Ichi, and Hamada Gaku as Tokugawa Ieyasu.
