The Japanese poster visual and new stills for Disney & Pixar's new animated film "Elio" (released August 1st) were released on May 23rd. The Japanese poster depicts the protagonist, Elio, a lonely boy who is devoted to his beloved space, and Grodon, a timid, kind-hearted, lonely alien boy, gently embracing each other. The stills also show the beautiful and colorful world of stars where the two meet, creating an impressive visual that is said to be the most "gentle and moving" work in Pixar's history.
The movie follows the protagonist Elio, who is searching for his place in the universe and believes he will one day go to space. One day, his wish comes true and he is invited to the dreamlike world of "Communiverse," where leaders from various planets gather in space. The movie follows Elio as he meets his space friends, forms bonds with them, finds his place in the universe, and grows.
The directors are Madeline Sharafian, who served as a story artist in "Coco" (2017), Domee Shi, who directed "Me and the Red Panda" (2022), and Adrian Molina, who wrote and co-directed "Coco". It has already been announced that in the Japanese version, 11-year-old Eito Kawahara will voice the main character Elio, and 6-year-old Tasuku Sato will voice the alien boy Grodon.
Grodon, who Elio meets in the "Communiverse" and quickly becomes his best friend, is a kind-hearted alien boy who, like Elio, is lonely. He is troubled by his "cowardice" which is different from his strong and powerful father and those around him. Before meeting Elio, he had never been out in the outside world, and everything he sees is fresh and innocently happy.
The Japanese version poster shows a touching scene where the two, who were lonely and unable to fit in with their surroundings, meet and embrace in the world of stars, light years away. It also features an important message from Grodon to Elio, who is worried that it may be his fault that he felt he had no place on Earth: "I love you just the way you are." With these precious words from Grodon in his heart, it's an exciting visual to see how Elio will face the threat that shakes the world of stars.
