An exhibition of Masamune Shirow, a manga artist known for works such as "Ghost in the Shell," entitled "The World of Masamune Shirow: Ghost in the Shell and the Trajectory of Creation," will be held at the Setagaya Literary Museum (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo) from April 12th. This is Masamune Shirow's first large-scale exhibition, and will display around 440 items, including around 340 manga manuscripts, personal items, books, and collaborative works. It will run until August 17th.
The exhibition will focus on "Ghost in the Shell" and trace its history from the early works "Black Magic" to "Appleseed", "Dominion", "Senjutsu Choukaku Orion", and up to the present. Kei Sakawaki and Hiroaki Tobitaka will be in charge of graphic design, and Torafu Architects will be in charge of spatial composition.
Another highlight is the spectacular collaborative works, including those by the creative group CLAMP, manga artists such as Tsutomu Nihei and Ito Ogure, animation directors Hiroyuki Kitakubo and Kazuto Nakazawa, Russian illustrator Ilya Kuvshinov, graphic designer Kosuke Kawamura, artist Yu Nagaba, and photographer Jiro Konami.
The great appeal of Masamune Shirow's work is the minuteness of the drawings. If you look at the original analog manuscripts, you will be amazed at the artistic detail and attention to detail. Fans will also be delighted to see the exhibition of valuable materials such as names and rough drafts.
