The 48th Japan Academy Awards ceremony, a Japanese film festival, was held in Tokyo on March 14th, and Ryusei Yokohama from the film "Shotai" (directed by Michihito Fujii ) was selected as the Best Actor award winner.
Yokohama recalled, "It's been 10 years since I met director Michihito Fujii. Five years ago I won the Newcomer Award, and Director Fujii won the Best Picture Award for 'The Journalist.' I was truly happy at the time, and I wanted to stand here with him."
"It means a lot to me that I am here with Fujii's group to receive the Best Actor award. I really owe this award to my colleagues on 'Shotai,' everyone who loved this work, and everyone who voted for me. I am truly grateful," he said with joy.
He continued, "I'm really not good at acting, and as a person I'm a boring, stubborn person with no fun. I know that better than anyone, so I think about acting every day, I live for the work, and it may sound exaggerated, but I face it with the resolve to risk my life for it. I feel like my attitude has been recognized a little, so it's encouraging, and although I'm still young, I will continue to work hard for the further development of the film industry. Thank you for today," his eyes welled up with tears.
The film is based on the novel of the same name (Kobunsha) by Somei Tamehito, winner of the Excellence Award at the 37th Yokomizo Seishi Mystery Awards. Kaburagi (Ryusei Yokohama), who was arrested as a suspect in a murder case that shocked the whole of Japan and sentenced to death, escapes during transfer. Detective Matanuki (Takayuki Yamada) interrogates Sayaka (Yoshioka), Kazuya (Morimoto Shintaro), and Mai (Yamada Anna) who met Kaburagi, who continues to flee, in various parts of Japan, but the Kaburagi they each met looks like a completely different person... This is how the story unfolds. The true purpose of Kaburagi, who is traveling across Japan while changing his face, is revealed.
The awards were established to promote the advancement of Japanese cinema arts, technology, and science, and the selection is carried out by voting by members of the Japan Academy Prize Association. This year's selection covers films released between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Shinichi Hatori and Sakura Ando served as hosts.
