On March 13, Cha Kato and his wife, talent Ayana Kato, appeared at the "Vantiv Launch Press Conference" held in Tokyo. Cha, who turned 82 on March 1 this year, said he is currently hooked on late-night foreign TV dramas, explaining, "They're doing a story about the Korean military, and it's really interesting." He continued, "They start at 3:30 in the morning. It's already the crack of dawn. It starts at 3:30 and runs for two hours. After that I watch a mahjong program (laughs)." When he shared a bit of his lifestyle, Ayana revealed, "I go to bed at about 7 in the morning now."
Regarding her own bedtime, Ayana explained, "I've been going to bed at about 11pm lately." When Cha revealed, "Ever since we got married, I've been the one who goes to bed early," Ayana replied with a wry smile, "At first, I tried to match him, but then I got really sick. So now, I go to bed, and Cha goes to bed around the time I wake up."
When asked what points the couple pays attention to, Ayana commented, "We sometimes fight, but I'm usually the one who apologizes." She continued, "When I was in my 20s, I would often be the one to say the stronger thing when we fought. But my mom told me, 'Don't try to win against the person you love.' I can win an argument with Kato-chan, but I'm the one who'll end up regretting it later. Kato-chan is getting older now, so I've tried to apologize first so as not to make him too angry." She continued, "We don't usually fight much. It's almost like we haven't fought at all recently."
When asked about his future goals, Cha expressed his desire, saying, "If possible, I'd like to perform on stage until I'm 100 years old." He added with a wry smile, "I think the best thing would be to live to Chaju, or 108 years old. But I don't think I'll be able to perform comedy skits until I'm 108..." Ayana responded, "But Kato-chan turned 82 last week, and Boo-san (Takagi Boo-san) is now 92, so I think we should be fine for 10 years," to which he replied with a smile, "Boo-san is working hard, so I think I can work hard too."
The event was held in two parts by Vantiv, the Japanese subsidiary of a global healthcare company that provides acute and chronic kidney care. The event included an explanation of business strategies and a talk session on "home dialysis," a type of peritoneal dialysis that does not involve blood and is performed at home.
