The results of the annual voting project "2025 Manga Ranking for Anime" at AnimeJapan 2025, one of Japan's largest anime events, which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo) on March 22 and 23, were announced on March 13, revealing that Kota Kawae's manga "Nue's Exorcist," currently serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), was chosen as number one. This year marks the eighth time the event has been held, and out of 47 works nominated, "Nue no Onmyouji" won first place out of a total of 156,909 votes.
"Nue's Exorcist" has been serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" since May 2023. It is a modern onmyouji tale set in a school, where Yajima Gakurou, who has been able to see creatures called phantoms since ancient times, meets a female game-loving phantom called Nue... The author, Kawae, commented, "I'm honored to have been selected! I'll do my best to draw the manga so that I can repay everyone who voted for me! Thank you very much...!!"
In second place was Yoshimoto Makoto's "Usotsuki! Gokuo-kun," in third place Tachibana Oreco's "Hotaru no Yomeiri," in fourth place Neochoco's "Phantom Busters," in fifth place Chiba Yuuki's "Kindergarten Wars," in sixth place Kariya Sei's "The Ugly Red Light District Child," in seventh place Sano Yuto's "Gokurakugai," in eighth place was Makiburo's light novel comic adaptation "The Villainess Inside - I'll Take Revenge on the Lying Heroine for the Condemned Reincarnated," in ninth place Tanaka Kazuyuki's "Janket Bank," and in tenth place was inee's "Love Bullet."
The "Manga to be made into an anime ranking" is a popular regular project at "AnimeJapan" where the public votes for "manga that people want to see made into an anime" and "works that people want to see more of" from among the comics that have been released so far. In the past, "SPY×FAMILY," "The Apothecary Diaries," and "Oshi no Ko" have all ranked high.
In the previous 7th edition, the winner was Nakasora Hami's "Shinanochi no Ikuru," in the 6th edition Sumiyoshi Kyu's "Hyperinflation," in the 5th edition Hapomu's "Senpai Is an Otokonoko), in the 4th edition Sakurai Norio's "Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu" (My Dangerous Girl), in the 3rd edition Oda Tomohito's "Komi-san wa, Komyushou desu.", in the 2nd edition Morishita Makoto's "Im~Im~," and in the 1st edition Inoue Sato's "10DANCE" were selected as the number one winners.
AnimeJapan is an event that began in 2014, and this will be its 12th time being held. Following on from the previous event, which recorded over 130,000 visitors, the event will be held on the largest scale yet at East Exhibition Halls 1-8 and the Conference Tower at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo). A record 117 companies will exhibit, including Aniplex, KADOKAWA, and TOHO animation. Public days will be on March 22nd and 23rd, business days on March 24th and 25th, and the "Family Anime Festa 2025" for families and kids will be held on March 22nd and 23rd.
