It has been announced that Takaki Tsuyoshi's manga "BLACK TORCH," which was serialized in "Jump SQ." and "Shonen Jump+" (Shueisha), will be adapted into a TV anime. It will be directed by Umabiki Kei and produced by 100studio.
The work is a manga that was serialized in "Jump SQ." and "Shonen Jump +" from 2017 to 2018. The story is about a high school student, Niiro Agatsuma, who was raised by his grandfather as a descendant of a ninja and has the ability to talk to animals. He meets a black cat named Rago, a legendary spirit once known as the "Black Evil Star," and becomes embroiled in speculations surrounding its powers. A teaser visual featuring Niiro in a covert outfit with Rago riding on his shoulder, as well as a teaser PV featuring Niiro and others, have also been released.
Takaki, the original author, said, "Congratulations! 'BLACK TORCH' is being made into an anime!!! I'm probably the most surprised person in the world. It's all thanks to all of you who loved the original work, both in Japan and abroad. I have been closely supervising the production, including the settings and storyboards, and I think it has been reconstructed in a better form as an anime while respecting the original to the utmost. This is a new 'BLACK TORCH' with voices, sounds, movements and colors that weren't in the original. There's battles, cats and thighs! I hope you'll look forward to it!"
Director Umabiki commented, "A story of the strong bond between the protagonist and his friends! Visually appealing characters! Cool action and humor sprinkled throughout! Proud villains! Japanese-style elements such as ninjas and monsters! A military setting with sci-fi gimmicks! This work is packed with all the exciting aspects that boys love, and is a classic entertainment piece that follows in the footsteps of Jump series...! This was my impression when I first read "BLACK TORCH", and I remember being very excited."
"In producing the anime 'BLACK TORCH,' the entire staff is in agreement and is determined to make full use of elements unique to video, such as drawing, color art, music, and an all-star cast, to deliver the exciting charm of the original in an anime that truly captures the appeal of the original! Everyone, please look forward to the day we deliver the main story! Thank you very much!"
