Actress Keiko Kitagawa (38) appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on March 6. The mother of a 4-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son, Kitagawa appeared for the first time in 11 years and talked about raising children and her work.
Kitagawa-san says that she usually sleeps five to six hours a night. "My son still doesn't sleep well. He wakes up about twice a night, so even if I manage to sleep six or seven hours in total, it's still in very short bursts," she revealed.
When she had one child, she raised her child with the help of her husband, musician DAIGO. Now that she has two children, she realizes that "I can't work without the cooperation of my husband's parents and my parents." Before starting work, Kitagawa first consults with her husband.
"I said to my husband, 'I've been offered this opportunity during this period and I'd like to work. What do you think?' and he said, 'That's a good idea.' During that time, my husband shouldn't take on any other work than his regular duties so that he can devote time to our children. I also spoke to both of my parents and said, 'I'd like to work during this period. Is that okay?' They always push me to do it, so I feel like I'm doing it with the support of my parents."
When asked by Tetsuko about the secret to her beauty, she said, "I was 27 years old the last time I came here. This year I'll be 39. I get asked a lot of questions, but I've gotten older, so I don't really resist it. I think it's good to just be myself, and I think that's what makes me beautiful."
She also revealed, "I don't really hold back on the foods I want to eat, and although people say that sleep is very important, my hobby is needlework, so I'll sew every night or sacrifice sleep to do the things I like (laughs). I try not to hold back on things."
