It has been announced that the anime " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Yaiba," based on the popular manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, will collaborate with Major League Baseball (MLB). The collaboration is to commemorate the MLB preseason opening game "MLB TOKYO SERIES 2025 Presented by GUGGENHEIM," which will be held at Tokyo Dome (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo) from March 15th, and a special video has been released on YouTube. It was also announced that collaboration goods will be made to order and released during the "MLB Tokyo Series." The opening game will be a match between the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The special movie was produced by ufotable, the same company that produced " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba." It depicts one of the major themes of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Yaiba," "the inheritance of feelings," from the perspective of Japanese baseball history, and features five Japanese players expected to play in the opening game, including Chicago Cubs players Shota Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki, and Los Angeles Dodgers players Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, as anime characters. The movie will also be used as a game production for the preseason game and opening game to be held at Tokyo Dome.
The story of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" is about Tanjiro Kamado, whose family was killed by demons, joining the Demon Slaying Corps to turn his sister Nezuko, who has turned into a demon, back into a human. The original was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 2016 to 2020. The total number of copies of the comics published is over 150 million.
The TV anime "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc" was broadcast from April to September 2019, and the movie version "Mugen Train" released in October 2020 was a huge hit, grossing approximately 40 billion yen, the highest ever box office revenue in Japan. The "Entertainment District Arc" was broadcast from December 2021 to February 2022, the "Swordsmith Village Arc" from April to June 2023, and the "Hashira Training Arc" from May to June 2024.
"Infinity Castle Arc" is a new anime following "Hashira Training Arc" and will be produced as part of a theatrical trilogy. The first chapter will be released on July 18th at 443 cinemas, the largest number yet for the series. From April 4th, a special edited version of "Kimetsu Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc" through to "Hashira Training Arc Arc" will be shown in theaters under the title "Demon Slayer Theater - Special Edited Edition Theatrical Screening of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba". Each episode will be screened for a limited period of one week at 33 cinemas nationwide. The hugely popular "Mugen Train" movie, which was released in October 2020, will be shown again at 423 cinemas from May 9th.
