The new cast of the NHK Taiga drama "Toyotomi Brothers!" starring Taiga Nakano, which will be broadcast in 2026, was announced on the official NHK drama X (formerly Twitter) on February 3rd, and it was revealed that Aoi Miyazaki will appear as Oichi. This will be Miyazaki's first taiga drama in 18 years since she starred in "Atsuhime" (2008).
Miyazaki commented, "Taiga dramas have definitely changed my life, and they continue to influence me to this day. If I had never come across 'Atsuhime,' my approach to the work and my way of thinking about things would probably be different. I had always hoped that one day I would be able to take part in another taiga drama, and I couldn't be happier that that day is 'Toyotomi Brothers!'"
"Toyotomi Brothers!" is a success story of hope and dreams depicting the miracle of the Toyotomi brothers who accomplished the great feat of unifying the country with their strong bond, with Hidenaga, the younger brother of "the ruler of Japan," as the main character. The script is written by Hiroyuki Yatsu, who is known for "Naoki Hanzawa" and the TV drama series "Ochoyan."
Miyazaki plays Oichi, the younger sister of Oda Nobunaga. In this film, the siblings Nobunaga and Oichi are portrayed as the "Oda siblings" in opposition to the Toyotomi brothers. Although she was at the mercy of the turbulent times and led a tragic life, she is one of the heroines of the Sengoku period who lived a turbulent life with determination for the sake of her brother Nobunaga and the Oda clan. She married Azai Nagamasa of Omi, who was allied with Nobunaga, and gave birth to and raised three daughters, Chacha, Hatsu, and Go, but later her brother and husband came into conflict. She is a "Sengoku heroine who lived a turbulent life."
He revealed that it's been about 24 years since he last acted with Oguri Shun, who plays Nobunaga.
"We were still in our teens at the time, but I'm very happy that we'll be working together as siblings as adults. I think the siblings portrayed will be different from the Toyotomi brothers, so I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of relationship I can build with Oguri," she said with anticipation.
