The 75th episode of the NHK Asadora drama "Omusubi " (General TV, Monday to Saturday at 8:00 AM and others), starring Kanna Hashimoto, was broadcast on January 17th, and the surprising previous occupation of dietitian Sayuri Saijo (played by Kanna Hashimoto ) was revealed, causing a stir among viewers.
In the 75th episode, Yui (Hashimoto), who is on maternity leave, visits the employee cafeteria of her workplace, Seika Electric, in preparation for her return to work. There, she meets Mizutani (Sanada Riki), a new nutritionist who was hired temporarily to replace Yui, and Yui worries about what will happen to Mizutani after she returns to work.
One day, Yui visits the hospital for her daughter Hana's regular checkup and reunites with Saijo, who looked after her while she was hospitalized. Saijo remembers Yui, and Yui decides to consult him about Mizutani. Saijo sympathizes with Yui, saying, "I had the same experience when I was on maternity leave, so I can kind of understand how you feel."
When Yui asked Saijo why she wanted to become a registered dietitian, she confessed, "I was originally a bus guide." However, when Saijo was in her 20s, her mother was diagnosed with stomach cancer and she quit her job to care for her. Because her mother's diet was limited, Saijo began studying about nutrition while caring for her mother.
One day, his mother said, "I want to eat the ramen from the ramen shop we often went to," but she was not allowed to eat solid food. Saijo thought that she could just drink the soup, so he asked the ramen shop owner how to make it and made his own soup. His mother was delighted with how delicious it was, and although she had been told she had only one month left to live, she lived for another six months.
Saijo revealed, "I wanted to do this for more people, so I studied hard and became a registered dietitian," and proudly added, "This job isn't very noticeable and not much is known, but I'm proud of it."
On social media, comments included, "Everyone has a history," "Dr. Saijo went from being a bus guide to being a registered dietitian. She has many different second and third lives," "She looks so good as a bus guide!" and "Sayuri has such a great voice, it's from her days as a bus guide. I thought she was just a bright and interesting character...that's a nice detail!"
Fujiwara also played the role of a bus guide in the drama "One Day, Duck Bus" which aired on NHK BS in 2015, leading to comments such as "It's a self-homage within NHK," and "Wasn't there a drama with Norika as a bus guide?"
