It has been announced that actor and singer Akira Terao will star in his first film in 16 years in the film "My Father and I's Never-ending Song" (directed by Norihiro Koizumi), which will be released on May 23, 2025. Terao will play Mamiya Tetsuta, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, and Tori Matsuzaka will play Mamiya Yuta, his son who continues to support his father.
The film is based on a true story that began with a video posted on YouTube in the UK in 2016. The video depicts the bond between a father and son suffering from Alzheimer's disease, and has touched people all over the world.
The setting of this film has been changed to Japan, and it features a father and son who run a musical instrument store in Yokosuka. It tells the moving story of the love and conflict between the two men, and how, with the support of their family and friends, the father, who has Alzheimer's, tries to achieve his dream of making his record debut, which he had given up in his youth. In addition to Terao and Matsuzaka, the cast also includes Matsuzaka Keiko, Sato Shiori, Soejima Jun, Oshima Miyuki, Asuka Saito Asuka, Miyake Yuji, Ishikura Saburo, and Sato Koichi.
Terao said, "This is a memorable production for me as it is the first time that my career as an actor and a singer intersect. At first I was unsure whether I should accept the role, but when I heard that Tori would be playing the role of my son, I gradually became interested in working with Tori. I am grateful to have found something I can pour my passion into at this age."
Matsuzaka commented, "It was memorable to be able to film while enjoying the atmosphere of Yokosuka's unique cityscape. I am truly proud to have played Terao's son. Terao is always gentle and embracing, and when we act together I feel like I'm being drawn into his eyes. He is such a wonderful person. I hope that this film will give people moments of hope."
