On December 25th, it was announced that "Number One Sentai Gojuger" (TV Asahi, 9:30am) will start on February 16th, 2025, as a 50th anniversary commemoration of the Super Sentai series that began with "Himitsu Sentai Goranger" in 1975. The Gojugers are beast-themed heroes. "Black" will be played by a female cast member, making her the first ever "female Black" to be a regular Super Sentai warrior.
Five heroes with their own unique personalities wreak havoc: Red Gojuu Wolf, who is foul-mouthed but strong and good-natured at heart; Blue Gojuu Leon, a people-pleaser who is kind to everyone, regardless of gender; Yellow Gojuu Tyranno, a Tyrannosaurus who has incredible strength but is naive and often gets into trouble; Green Gojuu Eagle, a fun-loving playboy; and Black Gojuu Unicorn, a cool guy who cares about his family.
Their enemies are the "Number One Monsters" from the evil army, who are the best in all fields. In order to save the people caught up in the conflict, the Gojugers engage in various "Number One Showdowns" with the Number One Monsters.
In parallel with the battle against the monsters, a battle breaks out over the "Sentai Rings", which are also scattered throughout the newly released poster visual. Driven by the battle to "collect all the rings", the five Gojuger are rivals competing for the rings, and also battle within the Sentai. In addition to the five, rivals with the powers of previous Reds will appear one after another. The relationship of "friends and rivals" is a defining feature that sets this film apart from previous works.
The scriptwriter is Akiko Inoue, who has been in the news for having worked on the Kamen Rider series for three generations with her grandfather Masaru Igami and her father Toshiki Inoue, and now she will be spinning a new Super Sentai series.
The director will be Ryuta Tazaki, who has worked on many special effects productions such as the Kamen Rider series, Mashin Sentai Kiramager, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, and Boutarou Sentai Don Brothers. The music will be handled by Kan Sawada, who has worked on popular dramas such as Doctor X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon.
TV Asahi producer Keisuke Shibataka expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "Even people who are unfamiliar with the Super Sentai series will be able to enjoy this production 100%, and people who are familiar with the previous Sentai series will enjoy it 50 times more! The joy of change, the fun of cheering on the characters. We are all united in our efforts to create a show that will make you want to clap your hands."
Toei producer Matsuura Daigo commented, "The main character is a wolf hero. A lonely rogue wolf leaves his pack and sets out on a journey in search of new places. He's not prepared. There's no guarantee or certainty. But it seems he does have a little bit of courage to set out on this journey. So he's aiming to be number one. A number one that will blow away 50 years! Not 50th, but a new era that begins from here! He's definitely not number one just because he's a wolf, definitely not!"
