It has been announced that Tobirano's light novel "Zutaboro Reijou wa Suki ni Shite Ai Suru" will be adapted into a TV anime and will begin airing in July 2025. It tells the Cinderella story of Marie, who has been treated like a servant in a poor baron's household, and the wealthy Count Kyros, and it has been announced that Rena Motomura will voice Marie and Daiki Hamano will voice Kyros. A key visual depicting the moment Marie and Kyros meet and a promotional video have also been released.
The story is about Marie, the second daughter of a poor baron, who wears tattered clothes and is treated like a servant by her parents, who meets the wealthy Cyrus at a party and is attracted to him, but due to a misunderstanding, Cyrus proposes to Marie's older sister Anastasia instead... Cyrus and Anastasia's engagement progresses quickly, but one day Anastasia dies in an accident and Marie marries into the Earl's family instead. The book is published by Futabasha's label "M Novels f". The comic book version is also popular, with the series having sold over 2 million copies in total.
Motomura, who plays Marie, commented, "After reading the original work, I couldn't take my eyes off the romance between Marie and Cyrus, and the sudden, thrilling and serious developments with the quirky characters! I think Marie is a girl with a lot of charm. Once you remove the veil of tatters, her strength and toughness are revealed, and she is as beautiful as a jewel. I am very happy to be able to play Marie. After meeting Cyrus, Marie's previously monochrome world changes drastically. I will do my best to act so that I can share that moment with everyone. Thank you very much."
Hamano, who plays Kyros, said, "These are adorable main characters that you will want to root for all this time...I can't take my eyes off the relationship between the two, who are connected by their souls. It's not at all a typical boy-meets-girl story. It's a work that is filled with exciting scenes amidst the romance. I'm looking forward to playing Kyros, who is straightforward and clumsy, but who cares about people deep down."
Original author Tobirano commented, "I'm Tobirano, the original author. 'The Ragged Lady is Doted on by Her Sister's Ex-Fiance' has finally been made into an anime! I'm surprised!! To me this feels like fantasy, and I still feel like I'm in a dream. Granado Castle, which was originally just words on the web, has now been given color, and Marie, Kyros, and the other ragged characters are talking and moving on TV. I hope that viewers will enjoy this magical reality."
Murasaki Mai, the original character designer, said, "Congratulations on the TV anime adaptation! I'm very grateful and happy that we'll be able to see the world of 'The Ragged Young Lady is Adored by Her Sister's Ex-Fiance' in anime. I'm excited to see what kind of music they'll use, what kind of voices they'll have when they speak and move...I'm really looking forward to it."
