It was revealed on November 26th that Mika, a member of the female vocal unit "Little Glee Monster," will be making her acting debut in the drama series "Sora Wataru Kyoushitsu," which is currently airing on NHK's "Drama 10" slot (General TV, Tuesdays at 10 p.m.). In the eighth episode (broadcast on November 26th), she plays Yurina, a character who has a significant influence on Yanagida Gakuto (Kobayashi Toranosuke).
Yurina, like Gakuto, is a high school girl who attends the "LD Plaza" learning support center for developmental dyslexia. She has a bright and positive personality, and despite her difficulties with reading and writing, she is trying to move forward toward her dreams.
Mika reflected, "I am very happy to be appearing as an actor in NHK Drama 10 "Sora Wataru Kyoushitsu." I was originally interested in acting, but I had no experience in lessons, so when I was offered the job of acting for the first time, I was really surprised, but I was also filled with joy at being able to take on a new challenge."
She also revealed, "Of course I was nervous when I actually received the script and started acting, but the director, the staff on set, and all the other actors welcomed me kindly and warmly, and I was grateful for this wonderful environment and tried to act with all my heart." She continued, "And when I compared the similarities between Yurina and me, I realized that we both have the same feeling of 'Even if there are things I'm not good at, I'll try to pursue my dreams.' Once again, I'm truly glad that Yurina is the first role I've ever been given."
This work is a dramatization of the same-titled novel by Iyohara Arata, which was inspired by a true story, starring Kubota Masataka. Fujitake (Kubota), a mysterious science teacher, is assigned to a part-time high school in Shinjuku, Tokyo. With Fujitake's guidance, the students aim to present an experiment to an academic conference by recreating a Martian crater in the classroom, but various difficulties stand in their way, such as their own disabilities, family problems, and unbreakable relationships... Little Glee Monster will also be performing the theme song "Break out of your bubble."
