To celebrate the 55th anniversary of the broadcast of the popular anime "Sazae-san" (Fuji TV), it has been announced that "Tuesday Sazae-san," also known as "Manga Masterpiece Theater Sazae-san," will be "revived" for the first time in about 27 years. "Manga Masterpiece Theater Sazae-san" was a TV anime that was broadcast every Tuesday until 1997. To celebrate the 55th anniversary, "Tuesday Sazae-san" will be broadcast from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm on November 26th as part of the special program "National Anime Festival Sazae-san 55th Anniversary SP" broadcast on the same station.
On November 26th, "Tuesday Sazae-san" will air the opening and closing songs from November 26th, 1985, including "The Bottom Is Known," "Namihei and his wife's Autumn Battle," and "It's Getting Chilly."
To commemorate the 55th anniversary, Fuji TV will be broadcasting various special content related to "Sazae-san" from November 25th to December 1st, titled "Celebrating the 55th Anniversary of Broadcasting: Autumn Sazae-san Week." In a 10-minute slot from 6:50 to 7:00 pm each day from November 25th to 29th, one episode will be broadcast each day as "Autumn Masterpiece Selection," carefully selected from the show's 55-year history. The lineup will include winter episodes such as the early episode "Why Don't You Close It?", which aired on November 26th, 1972, and "Wakame Winter Preparations," which aired on November 27th, 2005. This project is the second installment of the "Golden Sazae-san Week Masterpiece Selection," which was held during Golden Week this year.
On December 1st, the final day of "Sazae-san Week," a one-hour special will be broadcast from 6:00 pm as "Sazae-san 55th Anniversary Broadcast Special." The lineup will feature seven episodes, each focusing on a member of the Isono family: Sazae, Katsuo, Wakame, Tarao, Fune, Masuo, Namihei, and Tama.
Sazae-san is based on a manga by Machiko Hasegawa. The TV anime began airing on October 5, 1969. In 2013, it was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the "longest-running TV anime program," and in 2019, it updated its own record by five years. This year, it updated its record by another five years and was recognized by the Guinness World Records. Voice actress Midori Kato, who has played Sazae Fuguta since the first broadcast, has also been recognized, updating her own Guinness World Record for "the longest time a voice actress (female) has played the same character in a TV anime program." It airs every Sunday at 6:30 pm on Fuji TV.
