It has been revealed that "Dengeki Daisy," a shojo manga by Kyosuke Saitomi that was serialized in "Betsucomi" (Shogakukan) from 2007 to 2013, will be adapted into a TV anime in 2027. Aniplex had opened a special website for a "mysterious" new anime on June 8th and was counting down to 11:00 AM on Getsuku, which had been generating buzz, but it has now been revealed that it was "Dengeki Daisy." The popular series has sold over 5 million copies of its comics, and it will be adapted into a TV anime approximately 24 years after the end of its serialization.
"Dengeki Daisy" tells the story of Teru Kurebayashi, a high school girl who lost her only remaining relative, her brother Souichiro. After breaking a window, she ends up working as a servant to Yu Kurosaki, a school janitor who is foul-mouthed and demanding but kindly watches over Teru. Her encounter with Kurosaki drastically changes Teru's destiny... The unique story, which blends romance and suspense, has made it popular and continues to be loved even after its completion.
The anime will be directed by Sota Ueno, with series composition by Sawako Hirabayashi, character design by Ayaka Murakami, and music by Masaru Yokoyama. It will be produced by Studio Deen. A teaser visual featuring Teru Kurebayashi, Yu Kurosaki, and the blue daisy, which is a symbol of the work, has also been released.
◇Comment from the original author, Kyosuke Saitomi
I heard that "Dengeki Daisy" is getting an anime adaptation, is that true...? Apparently it is. That's amazing. I can't believe the day will come when we'll see Teru and Kurosaki in action. I'm already looking forward to the broadcast in 2027. To the anime staff, please take good care of Daisy.
◇Comments from Director Sota Ueno
I hope to depict how we can live on together, embracing everything—the trivial things, the important things, the wounds we can't understand, the past that can never be forgiven, the past that we can't forgive—every single moment, every single moment—time after time.
◇Comment from series composition writer Sawako Hirabayashi
Feature phones, or "garakei" as they're commonly known, were a symbolic presence of the 2000s. The text displayed on those tiny screens left a unique impression, different from email on a computer, and I believe that's precisely why they could convey certain feelings. This story begins with a secret relationship connected through such a garakei. I hope that both long-time fans and those discovering them for the first time will enjoy it.
◇Comment from character designer Ayaka Murakami
I'm Ayaka Murakami, and I was in charge of character design. I'm very happy to have been entrusted with the role of character design in bringing the world of "Dengeki Daisy," created by Kyosuke Saitomi, to life in the form of a TV anime. The entire staff is working hard, through trial and error, to create visuals that will meet the expectations of the fans as we approach the broadcast. Please look forward to further updates!
◇Comment from musician Masaru Yokoyama
As I spoke with Director Ueno, I was increasingly struck by the uniqueness of the world he wanted to create. And not just a little, but quite profoundly so... I somehow decided that the only way to realize this vision was to record and mix in a place with such a distinctive musical character as Iceland! So, I went ahead and captured the atmosphere of a raging blizzard. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how the artistic music will blend with the world of the film.
