Actor Mirai Moriyama will play the one-eyed, one-armed swordsman Tange Sazen in the NHK special period drama "Tange Sazen: Ooka Echizen Gaiden," which will be broadcast on NHK BS from 7:30 PM on December 29th. Moriyama will take on the challenge of full-scale sword fighting with only one eye and one arm, bringing the action period drama hero back to life in the Reiwa era. Kuroki Haru will also play the heroine, O-Fuji, and Takahashi Katsunori will also appear in the familiar role of Ooka Echizen.
The one-eyed swordsman, Samanosuke Tange (played by Moriyama), receives a secret mission from the head of the family, Daizen Ryo (played by Maikuma Katsuya). The mission is to steal a pair of cursed swords, one large and one small, called Kenunmaru and Kunryumaru. A man of unwavering loyalty, Tange risks his life to obtain Kenunmaru, but loses his right arm as a price.
Samanosuke is saved by the wanted man O-Fuji (Kuroki) and is reborn as a one-eyed, one-armed swordsman named Tange Sazen. Eventually, the commotion comes to the attention of the town magistrate, Ooka Tadasuke (Takahashi).
Other cast members include Tanabe Seiichi, Fukushi Seiji, Kato Ryo, Taira Yuna, Ukaji Tsuyoshi, Aijima Kazuyuki, Enoki Takaaki, Yokouchi Tadashi, and Tamura Ryo.
