As part of the 10th anniversary project for the anime Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, a special edition of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Urdr Hunt, entitled Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Urdr Hunt - The Trail of a Little Challenger -, was released in theaters on October 31st. ◇What kind of anime?
"Urudr Hunt" is an anime distributed on the "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans G" smartphone app for "Iron-Blooded Orphans." In response to the app's end of service in January 2024, the series concluded with the second half of episode 12, "Shiden no Sora," but it was announced that it would be developed as an "animated video work." The series is written by Kamoshida Hajime, who is also known for the light novel series "Rascal Does Not Rascal Does Not Dream."
The special edition has been re-edited from all 12 episodes, with new cuts added. Director Tatsuyuki Nagai and the main staff from "Urudr Hunt" have reunited. Also being screened at the same time is the new short film "Makuai no Kusabi" from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans."
◇What kind of story is it? What is the connection to "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans"?
The story is set in PD (Post-Disaster) 323, around the time in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans that Tekkadan brings an end to Gjallarhorn's political interference in the Arbrau Central Council.
Venus, which lost the race to develop with Mars, is a remote planet that none of the four major economic blocs have shown any interest in. Its inhabitants don't even have IDs, and it's used as a penal colony for criminals. The protagonist, Wisterio Afam, was born and raised in the floating Radnitsa Colony on Venus, and he longs to change the current situation in his hometown.
A girl who claims to be a guide for the "Uruzu Hunt" appears before Wisterio, and he is asked to participate in the "Uruzu Hunt," a race with a huge prize that could even buy a colony.
◇Who is the protagonist and what is his robot?
Wisterio lost his parents at an early age and took over the colony management company, Afam Facilities, at a young age. He is cheerful and decisive, and has a big dream of making Venus a tourism-oriented nation. He is voiced by Rina Ikoma.
The protagonist's mobile suit, the Gundam Hashirakuboshi, is a Gundam frame mobile suit (MS) hidden deep within the power plant of the Radnitsa Colony. Demner Kitako Jr., Wisterio's instructor and caretaker, took over the suit's care from his late grandfather and has been maintaining it in secret. However, it does not have the Alaya-Vijnana system.
◇Will Tekkadan appear?
Some members of the group will appear. News of Tekkadan's exploits has reached Wisterio's ears. Montag (Gjallarhorn's McGillis Fareed) will also appear.
◇What is the simultaneous screening "Intermission Wedge"?
This is the story of Tekkadan, after they completed their mission to protect Kudelia and rose to fame during the battle surrounding the Arbrau Representative Nomination Election. After returning to Mars, Tekkadan continues to move forward, even resorting to drastic tactics, in order to further expand the organization. Meanwhile, seeing Orga Itsuka struggling alone with his unfamiliar work as leader, Mikazuki Augus and the other members of Tekkadan come up with an idea.
The Gundam series is sometimes explored in depth through spin-offs and other such works. When you watch Urdr Hunt, you'll feel the depth of Iron-Blooded Orphans. There are still many stories to see. Furthermore, the release of Iron-Blooded Orphans-related Gunpla such as the MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos Lupus, HG 1/144 Gundam Zagun, and SD Gundam EX Standard Gundam Barbatos has also been announced, with many more developments expected in the future, such as "Don't stop" (Orga's famous line).
