On September 17th, actors Shunsuke Daito and Marie Iitoyo attended a press conference after the preview screening of the completed Drama 10 "Shiba no Okite ~Warera Inu Baka Editorial Department~" (General TV, Tuesdays at 10pm), which will start on September 30th, held at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo. Noko, the Shiba Inu who co-stars with the actor, also made an appearance, and Daito and Iitoyo looked back on their time working with the dogs.
The top priority during filming was to avoid putting stress on the dogs, and Daito recalled, "It was a really rich set, and the dogs helped us out, as if Noko was telling us, 'Don't rush, try to stay calm.'" Iitoyo also smiled and said, "Even as the schedule became tight, I think we were able to film without getting too tense, thanks to the dogs' laid-back, laid-back personalities and soothing power."
Apparently Noko's acting skills were so outstanding that the staff called her "the Ashida Mana of the Shiba Inu world," and Daito said, "She has nothing but amazing qualities. She has a sense of theatricality and retains a free and cute quality. She destroys, in a good way, the ideas of 'I hope she'll be like this.' Noko is free, so she does things that are different to what we expected her to do. I found that very appealing, and I wanted to be that kind of person, so I asked Noko to teach me acting." In response, Iitoyo commented, "Learn from your dog's mistakes," to which Daito agreed, saying, "Exactly."
Iitoyo also praised her acting, saying, "I think she really understands what people are saying, and she has a wild instinct. The director told Noko to turn around here and stop here, and I thought she would never understand, but she acted perfectly. I thought she was really clever, and I was constantly amazed."
Regarding the atmosphere on set, Daito said, "It was my first time on a set like this, but with the dog in the middle, we naturally became friends and no one went back to the dressing room. We were together the whole time through the dog, and I'd never felt this sense of unity before." She also revealed an episode, saying, "(Noko) loved Hairi Katagiri's face and licked it all over. She must have found it delicious. (Katagiri) was completely smitten," making the audience laugh.
The drama is set in the Shiba Inu magazine "Shiba One" and is a human story that gently unravels the tangled hearts of people. Based on the non-fiction book "Heisei Dog Baka Editorial Department" by Yuka Katano, Daito plays the role of Shunichi Sagara, the editor-in-chief of the Shiba Inu magazine, and Iitoyo plays Reika Ishimori, an editor who is often at odds with Sagara.
