It was announced on August 27th that Watanabe Eriko and Kimura Miho of the comedy duo "Asagaya Sisters" will be appearing in the NHK morning drama " Bakebake, " starring Akari Takaishi , which will begin airing on September 29th in the second half of 2025. This will be the first time the Asagaya Sisters will be appearing in a Asadora. They will play the snake and frog who watch over the heroine Toki Matsuno(Takaishi) and Lefkada Heaven (Tommy Bastow).
The Asagaya Sisters will be voicing the snake and frog that live in the garden of Toki and Heaven's house. They will be the ones who watch over the two of them as they go about their daily lives. Eriko will be voicing the snake, and Miho will be voicing the frog.
Production manager Hashizume Kuniomi said, "We asked the Asagaya Sisters to provide the voices of the snake and frog who watch over the story. We spent a lot of time discussing with the scriptwriter Fujiki how to tell the story of this drama. It wasn't an objective narration, but neither was it narrated by the characters themselves. Fujiki's idea was that the ideal character would be someone who takes a slightly detached stance, who uses humor and lightly embraces the story, and so the snake and frog were born from that idea. We always record the two of them going back and forth like they would when they do a manzai comedy routine, and the set is always filled with laughter."
"Bakebake " tells the story of a couple who, together with her foreign husband, love ghost stories and shed light on the "nameless people" who had been forgotten in Meiji-era Japan as it became increasingly Westernized, and who acted as spokespeople for them. Takaishi, who stars in the film, plays the heroine, Toki Matsuno , the daughter of a fallen samurai from Yakumo Koizumi, modeled after Lafcadio Hearn 's wife, Setsu. The script is written by Fujiki Mitsuhiko, who has worked on NHK's "Asagaya Sisters' Laid-Back Life" and WOWOW's "Shooting Break Series," among others.
◇Comment from Asagaya Sisters
Eriko: This time, we were both given the role of watchdog as the snake and the frog. It was such a big role, I was surprised.
Miho: That's true. But we both have a bit of a slender core, so I was happy to hear that we were like a snake and a frog.
Eriko: I'm said to have the best posture among my sisters, so when I heard I'd be playing a snake, it made sense. Even a snake can stand up straight if it stretches its neck.
Miho: I love frogs, so I'm glad it was a frog. My sister has sharp eyes sometimes, so maybe Fujiki noticed that.
Eriko: Is that it?
Sister: Sometimes I'll be there for them, sometimes I'll be there from afar, and I'll watch over them like an auntie. Thank you very much.
