Actor Sadao Abe stars in the drama series "Shiawase na Kekkon" (TV Asahi, Thursdays at 9 PM). At the end of the fifth episode, which aired on August 14th, Detective Kurokawa, played by Yosuke Sugino, has a complete change of attitude. Kurokawa had been relentlessly pursuing Nella (Takako Matsu), but he admitted that he had feelings for her. We spoke to General Producer Nakagawa Shinko about the reason for casting Sugino in the difficult role of a detective who falls in love with a suspect.
The film brings together a cast of talented actors, including Abe in the lead role and Matsu in the heroine, as well as Rihito Itagaki, Takashi Okabe, and Danta Yasunori. Producer Nakagawa revealed, "When I told them that the script was written by Shizuka Oishi and that Abe and Matsu would be appearing, the casting went surprisingly well. I was really grateful that so many people raised their hands and said, 'I'd love to be in this film.'"
However, Oishi had one request: "People who are good at acting," a perfectly reasonable but difficult task. The cast was decided to meet this request, but as he recalls, "Although it wasn't something I was aiming for, as a result, we ended up with a lot of people involved in theater."
When thinking about who could play the role of Kurokawa, he decided on someone who was the complete opposite of Abe in every way, including age.
"I thought that having a detective fall in love with the suspect was a brilliant idea by Oishi. If the character was going to be attracted to the devilish nature of Nerla, played by Matsu, then I wanted someone young. I also wanted someone who would be visually completely different when confronting Nerla's husband, Kotaro (played by Abe), so I asked Sugino to play him."
The result was a great success. "I think Sugino's honesty and penetrating gaze, combined with Kurokawa's character, created a wonderful chemistry between him and Abe's Kotaro," he said.
