Stills from the movie "Distant Mountain Light" (directed by Ishikawa Kei, scheduled for release on September 5th), starring actress Suzu Hirose, were released on June 26th. Set in Nagasaki in 1950, Hirose is seen sporting permanent hair, which was popular at the time, in a polka-dot shirt with an apron, and a simple one-piece dress. In addition to shots of her everyday life with her husband, played by actor Kohei Matsushita, stills of her with Sachiko, a woman with a mysterious aura, played by Nikaido Fumi, and her daughter were also released.
In addition, stills of the cast that add depth to the film were also released, such as Jiro's father, Ogata Seiji (Miura Tomokazu), who comes from Fukuoka and stays at Etsuko's (Hirose) and Jiro's (Matsushita) apartment complex for a while, the udon shop owner Fujiwara (Shibata Rie), and high school teacher Matsuda Shigeo (Watanabe Daichi).
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro. Set in Nagasaki in the 1950s and Britain in the 1980s, it is a human mystery that uncovers the secrets of the memories of Etsuko, a woman who experienced the atomic bomb. It was officially entered in the "Un Certain Regard" category at the 78th Cannes Film Festival held in May.
